- Abstract
The article presents a speech by Vanita Gupta, head of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Justice Department, delivered at the symposium of University of Michigan Law School. Topics of speech include role of lawyers to serving public interest and committed to advancing criminal justice reform, disparities in justice system based on wealth, and need of fair trials in the cases. He also mentions the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the cases Bearden v. Georgia and Gideon v. Wainwright.
