- Abstract
In the osteomuscular system, the knee is one of the part of the inferior members that is most affected, with the consequent limitation or incapacity for deambulation. Objective: To determine the efficacy of rehabilitation and isokinetic exercise before and after partial arthroscopic meniscectomy. Methodology: Prospective, longitudinal research. Pre and post-operatory rehabilitation therapy was applied to 15 patients and rehabilitation therapy plus isokinetic exercise was applied to 17 patients. They were evaluated (starting-pre-post-final) by the SF-36 scale, the Hughston clinic knee, Pain Visual Evaluation, knee articular arc, cuadriceps trophism and muscular strength. Results: Statistical analysis (Student t, Wilcoxon test, chi square) was done by SPSS 15.0. Males were 59.4%, urban inhabitants 81%, Pain Visual Evaluation significantly decreased from 7.5 to 1 point, and both groups improved the articular amplitude and the muscular strength. Cuadriceps trophism increased in patients with isokinetic exercise. Conclusion: Early start of rehabilitation treatment plus or without isokinetic exercise, before and after the surgery, makes sure an efficient recuperation of the patient.
