- Abstract
The article "Bureaucracy Reduction - a Contribution to Solving the Labor Force Problem in Germany?" reports on the demands of entrepreneurs and business associations for facilitations and a reduction of bureaucratic burdens. The federal government sees this as an opportunity to accelerate the transformation of the economy and provide additional impetus to the weak economic situation. The bureaucracy costs of the German economy are estimated at 65 billion euros per year. Another argument for reducing bureaucracy is its contribution to mitigating the labor force problem. It is pointed out that avoidable bureaucratic effort not only incurs costs but also ties up labor that could be used elsewhere. However, it is emphasized that not all government regulations can be dismantled, as many regulations are based on EU requirements. Instead, the state should design the legal provisions in such a way that their implementation is associated with low costs for the economy. It is also recommended to better utilize existing registry data and to use digitization more extensively in fulfilling reporting and information obligations. The federal government should also use its influence at the EU level to prevent excessive regulations.
