- Abstract
This article discusses a modification of the transverse cordotomy procedure for the treatment of bilateral vocal fold immobility. The traditional procedure can lead to scarring and narrowing of the airway, resulting in poor voice outcomes. The modified procedure, called the TAM cordotomy, combines the transverse cordotomy with thyroarytenoid myectomy to improve healing and provide mucosal coverage. The technique has been performed on 11 patients, with five of them being able to be decannulated. The authors suggest that the TAM cordotomy creates a stable airway while preserving phonatory function.
