- Abstract
The article presents a study to assess the phytoextraction potential of Mediterranean saltbush shrub for lead and cadmium removal from contaminated soils. It emphasizes on influence of soil salinity in metal accumulation. It concludes that phytoextraction by halophytes like saltbush shrub is a promising alternative for the remediation of heavy metal contaminated sites affected by salinity. It adds that halophytes also contribute for heavy metal removal from non-saline soils.
