- Abstract
The article presents information on the accelerator-driven thorium reactor (ADTR), developed by Jacobs AG, which has the potential of producing nuclear power. The ADTR operates a ten-year self-sustained thorium fuel cycle, by using plutonium as a fission starter. It is stated that ADTR has several safety features, such as long refuelling time; and thorium fuel does not require enrichment, as against uranium, thus removing the need of proliferation-linked technology.
