- Abstract
Objective: Describe the nephrectomy prevalence due to kidney neoplasm and the age groups in the Urology Service of the Hospital de Especialidades of the Centro Medico "La Raza". Material and methods: Retrospective, descriptive and transversal study. We include patients with nephrectomy due to kidney neoplasm in the Hospital de Especialidades of the Centro Medico "La Raza" during the period 2000-2006. Results: 121 clinic histories were reviewed. The mean age was 65.7 years. The higher prevalence by year was 27.3% (2006). According to the UICC classification the frequency of stages by tomography was 20.7% for T2N0M0 (n = 5). Respect the surgical modality the frequency of the nephrectomy was 96.7% (n = 117) for radical and 3.3% (n = 4) for partial nephrectomy. Regarding to the surgical approach the open surgery was 93.4% (n = 113) and laparoscopic 6.6% (n = 0). The kidney neoplasm prevalence was benign in 2.5% (n = 3) and malignant in 97.5% (n = 118), of these 98.3% (n = 118) were localized in kidney parenchyma and 1.7% (n = 2) in the kidney pelvis. Histopathology more frequently found was clear cell carcinoma 81.8%. Conclusions: The nephrectomy prevalence by kidney neoplasm was 2.6%. The mean age risk is in the sixth decade of life. The most common technique actually used is by laparoscopy, and cancer histopathology more frequently found is clear cell carcinoma.
