- Abstract
This article states that small textile firms in India are closing their shops because they cannot cope up with rising raw material costs. According to Clothing Manufacturers' Association of India it means that about four lakh jobs in the next three quarters starting October 2008. Most of the small firms are based in Tirupur, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab and Ludhiana. It says that the textile hub in Tirupur will loose 50,000 jobs over the next six months. About 45 million people are work with the textile industry in India, making the sector second largest after the agriculture sector.
