- Abstract
The industrial use of hydrogen (H SB 2 sb ) is presently dominated by oil refining and ammonia production, mainly synthesized from natural gas reforming or heavy oil oxidation (gray H SB 2 sb ). Although the global green H SB 2 sb scenario inherits the geopolitics of fossil fuels, energy geopolitics will change significantly because H SB 2 sb production will be less concentrated than fossil fuel production, likely reducing the potential of forming energy cartels. However, the cost of green H SB 2 sb is greater than gray H SB 2 sb ; hence, green H SB 2 sb demand accounts for a small share of total H SB 2 sb demand. Hydrogen (H SB 2 sb ) is touted as the main alternative to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
