- Abstract
The airport and harbor systems are part of the critical infrastructure and are crucial not only for the aviation and maritime industries but also for the other transportation systems, economic and social life, the wellbeing of the nations and the environmental and political issues. Both aviation and maritime industries are facing numerous threats, risks and challenges – in some cases they are different for the particular infrastructure, while in other they are similar to one another. There are certain relations between the various risks and that is why their differentiation is a challenging task. The report outlines 7 main risk categories, which the both industries are dealing with, with their respective sub-risks: Technological risks and incidents – Aging technical infrastructure, Technical malfunction, Inefficient docking services, Drones and Collision between ships; Human factor - Lack of qualified specialists in the aviation and maritime industries; Cyber-security events - Cyber-security attacks; Economic risks - Foreign currency fluctuations, Economic and political environment, Competition in the domestic and international market, Price volatility of commodities, Congestion or overloading problems, Managing the supply chain, Failure to take advantage of mergers and acquisitions, and Inefficient maritime transport for passengers and goods; Climate issues – Climate change and Extreme weather conditions; Terrorist and illegal actions – Terrorist attacks and Criminal actions; Reputational risks – Reputational damages. The report presents different new technologies and innovations for overcoming uncertainties that the aviation and maritime industries are facing. For maritime infrastructure that are: harbor monitoring system for detection of suspicious objects, sea radars, acoustic sensors, optical and infrared cameras. As examples of such systems are offered Radar Surveillance Solutions for Ports, Waterways and Offshore Facilities (SSR) and Automatic Identification System (AIS). For the aviation industry the detection algorithm YOLOv3 is presented as a part of the Convolutional Neutral Network (CNN). Finally, the report outlines the importance of the behavioral analysis programs for the critical infrastructure and respectively to the airport and harbor infrastructures. Two technologies based on the behavioral analysis are presented - Human Behavior Technology and BiObserver – along with their mechanisms of work, role and results.
