- Abstract
The school is a privileged place for the problematization of relationships between human beings and the environment. The study was carried out in 2019 with twenty-eight students from the seventh grade of elementary school at a public school in the municipality of São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with the aim of understanding their perceptions of socioenvironmental problems in the municipality in which they resided and/or studied. The students were asked to prepare a textual production on socio-environmental problems in the municipality. The content analysis technique was used in the categorization and classification. In most productions, soil pollution (12) was pointed out, followed by pollution of water bodies (6), river water overflow (6) and open sewage (3). The analysis indicated relevant socio-environmental issues for the local population, associating failures in basic sanitation with health problems of the residents, and proposals with critical precepts to minimize environmental damage. The study of students' textual productions on socio-environmental issues contributed to the understanding of their perceptions and critical-reflexive analyzes for a dialogic science teaching with Environmental Education.
