- Title
POLLEN ANALYSIS OF THREE BOGS ON VANCOUVER ISLAND, CANADA.
- Authors
HANSEN, HENRY P.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the pollen analysis of three bogs in the southern half of the east coast of Vancouver Island, Canada. The first bog is near the Black River, the second is from Qualicum Beach and the third is at the north end of Lanford Lake. Volcanic glass fragments were noted in all sections and peat was boiled in a weak solution of potassium hydrate with gentian violet stain in preparation of the sediments for microscopic analysis. The composition of forests and distribution and concentration of the species are controlled by precipitation, elevation and soil. It is concluded that although pollen profiles of the three sections manifest different climates in the three areas, there are no trends that refer climatic fluctuations in both present and the post-glacial periods.
