- Title
CLINICAL DECISION SUPPORT AND THE LAW: THE BIG PICTURE.
- Authors
Bates, David W.
- Abstract
The article focuses on clinical decision support (CDS) and health law in the U.S. It says that the substantial incentives implemented through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009 has increased the use of health information technology (HIT) that will likely improve the quality, safety and efficiency of care; however many of its benefits occur within CDS. It relates the study conducted by the Center for Health Information Technology (HIT) Leadership which showed that advanced clinical support can produce 12 times financial return. It says that health providers who use electric health records are slow to adopt CDS which results to the unimproved quality of care.
