Chairside instrument sharpening.
- Authors
Wehmeyer, Thomas E.
- Abstract
The article reports on a technique of dental instrument sharpening, known as chairside instrument sharpening, which is employed during patient treatment. This technique is not intended to eliminate methodical sharpening of instruments between patients. As reported, it is important to maintain a functionally sharp edge on all curets during the clinical treatment of periodontal disease. It is further reported that in this rapid and effective method, a tapered hard Arkansas stone is used. In this technique, the instrument to be sharpened is stabilized on a firm sterile surface and the face of the instrument is held parallel to the floor.
