- Abstract
Introduction Trochanteric Fractures represent more than 55% of all proximal femoral fractures. They occur on a highly vascularized bone. The aim of treatment is the early mobilization of patients, with their return to the previous activity level. Material and Method Several cases of trochanteric fractures were assessed, all operated with various fixation devices, according to the nature of fracture and the occurred complications : DHS (Dynamic Hip Screw), PFN (Proximal Femoral Nail), DCS (Dynamic Condylar Screw), AO 130 degrees blade plate, 95 degrees condylar blade plate. Results The results were generally good, though cases of implant migration or deterioration have been reported. Discussion Trochanteric Fractures represent an important current issue, due to its high incidence, its severe impact on unfit, mostly elderly patients, its complications (especially unproper consolidation) and biomechanical prejudice. Srgical treatment allows stable reduction and internal fixation with a well placed, solid implant, to permit early mobilization. This early recovery is critical in rehabilitating the elderly, most frequently affected patients. Conclusions Treating trochanteric fractures remains difficult. The surgical treatment has advantages, as proven by the decrease of mortality due to an early patients mobilization. The many fixation devices allow a complex, specific approach to this problem.
