The article discusses the history of the Woman's Missionary Union (WMU) that was started in 1888. Topics discussed include the forming of Woman's Missionary Societies (WMS) by Baptist women of the American South, leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) missionary calling for a national entity to be formed, and leaders of the WMU initiating a program requiring WMS groups to be active in local mission work.
