- Abstract
The article focuses on how U.S. journalists, newspapers, and the press have confronted the fear and anxiety surrounding the so-called secret society, the American Mafia. Several publications have covered of the assassination of Chief of Police David C. Hennessy on October 16, 1980 to a deep-seated racism against the Italian immigrants. Xenophobia and prejudice became a common reaction among the settles in New Orleans as the Italian population and immigrants within the area has grown.
