- Abstract
The article studies the differences between the Lutzomyia vexator and Lutzomyia stewarti sand flies found in North America. Topics discussed include the habitat preferences of the flies, both species as carriers of saurian malaria parasite Plasmodium mexicanum and other reptilian pathogens for which the flies serve as hosts. Also discussed are the characteristics of each specie and the molecular method used to differentiate one from the other.
