The author reflects on the results of a study which examined the impact of parenting behavior on the transition to adulthood of children with chronic diseases. She says that the study shows a difference pertaining to the adaptation of mothers and fathers to living with their children with long-term condition. The study has found that children aged 14 and above are more likely to maintain treatment regimens and the families cope more effectively with the stress associated with the care of children when father's involvement in care is high.
