- Title
Curiouser and curiouser: the perplexing conundrum of reactive oxygen species and hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction.
- Authors
Ward, Jeremy P. T.
- Abstract
The article discusses a study which investigated the effects of the membrane-permeable and intracellular-acting superoxide dismutase mimetic tempol on the hypoxic pressor response of perfused lungs. Using rat models, the study has found that tempol suppresses hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV). Information on the role of superoxide and peroxide in signalling in HPV is presented.
