- Title
As Production Goes Global, Drug Supply Faces Greater Risks to Safety, Quality.
- Authors
Kuehn, Bridget M.
- Abstract
The article discusses the impact of the globalization of drug production on the pharmaceutical industry of the U.S. According to the author, having drugs made in other countries prevents the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from monitoring the process of manufacturing, resulting in higher risks to the safety of the drugs as what happened in 2007 when the use of adulterated heparin led to adverse events among patients relying on dialysis. A report from the Pew Health Group recommended tighter control over international suppliers by pharmaceutical companies to improve the safety of the world drug supply.
