- Abstract
The conservation of Partula tree snails in French Polynesia has been ongoing for over 40 years. The introduction of the predatory snail Euglandina rosea led to the extinction of 52 species in the wild. However, conservation breeding efforts have been successful for 10 species. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, reintroductions were halted from 2020 to 2023. In 2023, the field conservation program was able to resume, with detailed monitoring and new collaborations established. A recent release of snails has shown promising results, with the presence of self-sustaining populations. The collaboration and new approaches in Partula conservation are expected to contribute to broader terrestrial mollusc conservation efforts.
