- Abstract
The article focuses on Humphrey King, an unlearned poet & peripheral figure in Elizabethan literary culture who was known as "the king of tobacconists" and published a pamphlet of his own. It discusses that the author analyzes references to King in other works; examines his own writing and explores his role in the literary circles of turn-of-the-century London, England; and highlighting the conflicts between academic and non-academic culture in that period.
