- Title
EGALITARIANISM AND UTILITARIANISM IN QUASI-LINEAR BARGAINING.
- Authors
Moulin, Herve
- Abstract
The article argues that equal sharing of cooperative surplus, perhaps the simplest notion of microeconomic justice, is hardly operational. Interpersonal comparisons of welfare increments are impossible without an objective numeraire. The axiomatically egalitarianism, utilitarianism, and, in general, the class of equal sharing above a convex decision (ESCD) social choice functions, are characterized in the quasi-linear context. Both the egalitarian and the ESCD social choice functions are illustrated in a particular case of a binary public decisions and defined with full generality.
