- Abstract
Archival studies and records were very important in Ottoman Empire. Correspondences at all levels of the state have absolutely been recorded in registries and all of the records including their drafts have very sensitively been preserved. The main reason for this material to sustain its existence, including records written approximately 600 years ago, is the Importance State has given to record keeping and preserving as well as the elements that make up the records. Besides, the quality of the papers onto which records are being kept and the processes they go through, the quality of the ink used in writing, the binding technique and the materials used has had a significant positive contribution to records being long-lived. Some of the material has been lost due to reasons beyond control such as war, fire, natural disasters and moving the material between repositories, however, most of them reached until the present day.
