- Title
The Dacian Silverwork at the Turn of Epoch (Centuries I B.C. -- I A.D.).
- Authors
Spânu, D.
- Abstract
The appearance of the Dacians in history and the set up in the late La Tène period in Dacia of an original goldsmith's trade are two phenomena intimately connected to one another. Both phenomena might be caused by the local receipt and redistribution of the drachms and late republican denarii that came from the Roman payments. The local elite developed its own repertoire of marks and symbols, promoted an original mythology and instituted particular rituals. It is from this perspective that the dacian hoards with gold and silver objects should be interpreted.
