- Title
TOWARD A HISTORY OF SYLLOGISTIC AFTER AVICENNA: NOTES ON RESCHER'S STUDIES ON ARABIC MODAL LOGIC.
- Authors
STREET, TONY
- Abstract
The article discusses the study of German philosopher Nicholas Rescher on the Arabic Modal Logic of Persian logician Avicenna. It states that the study of Rescher records the syntax of a system with main features that are common to writers and puts forward semantics which is equivalent to a system. It cites that the most serious shortcomings of Rescher studies are the historical conclusions, failure to treat Arabic technical terms, and the relations of characters which are distorted and wrong. It also mentions that Rescher describes the relationship between Qazwini and Avicenna as a state of dependency.
