- Abstract
Information technology has enabled academic libraries, as in the case of the other types of libraries, to move from traditional paper based environments towards networked electronic environment. A large number of subscribed and open sources electronic information resources are available in the engineering discipline. The present study was carried at autonomous engineering institutions affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University in Karnataka to examine the factors affect the optimum utilization of electronic information resources and search pattern. The study mainly focused on the use of different types of electronic information resources by the faculty, experience of using e- resources, problems faced,, preferred search engines and search methods and skills required for better utilisation of electronic information resources. For this purpose the researchers prepared a well structured questionnaire as a tool for data collection and the collected questionnaire has been analyzed and presented with useful percentage analysis and suitable tables for presentation of data. It is clear from the study that majority of 1684 (75.14%) of the faculty use electronic information resources for their academic and research activities. The article concluded with summarizes the results highlighting the major findings and suggestions.
