- Title
INVESTIGATING THE Process of Diffusion Using an Analytical Puzzle.
- Authors
Villani, Philip; Dunlop, Rachel; Damitz, Brian
- Abstract
The article discusses the process of diffusion. It is defined as the movement of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area of a low concentration. The closing of the leaves of the Venus Flytrap is a response to the diffusion of ions and water out of specialized motor cells. A nerve cell produces a signal along an axon when ions are allowed to diffuse out of the cell. Perspiration cools our bodies when water diffuses out of our skin cells and evaporates. Although there are complicated mechanisms that regulate these processes as a whole, diffusion plays a major role in how they operate.
