- Abstract
The front photopyroelectric (FPPE) configuration, together with the thermal-wave resonator cavity (TWRC) method was applied in order to measure the thermal effusivity of thin solids. The methodology is based on a detection cell in which the thin solid layer is inserted between two layers of identical liquids - one layer in contact with the pyroelectric sensor, acting as coupling fluid and the second one acting as backing layer. The value of the thermal effusivity is obtained as a result of a scan of the phase of the FPPE signal as a function of coupling fluid's thickness (TWRC method). The suitability of the method was demonstrated with investigations on a 50μm thick copper foil.
