- Abstract
Purpose: Fashion consumption and the dresses reflect a sense of power for women, both for the sense of belonging and integration, and for social distinction. Thus, this article aims to analyze the social construction of female fashion consumption, from fashion blogs. Design/methodology/approach: A descriptive study was carried out, with a qualitative approach, which collected data through a netnography carried out in three fashion blogs and 20 interviews with fashion consumers. The data were analyzed in the light of Content Analysis. Research, Practical & Social implications: Regarding to the symbolic aspects present in fashion consumption, it was observed that the patterns socialized by blogs generate feelings of power, satisfaction, status, well-being and belonging, translated into an intense connection consolidating the relevance of appearance and distinction in the experience of female consumption. Originality/value: Reflecting on the constant transformations of fashion becomes relevant, because women long to consume not only garments, but the social construction of their own identity.
