- Title
Psychological Implications of Retirement in the 21st Century.
- Authors
Matour, Susan; Prout, Maurice F.
- Abstract
Since the 1950s retirement has evolved from what was a brief, final period of decline to what is now a full-blown dynamic stage in the life cycle. Recent clinical studies focusing on the variables that affect the quality of life as a retiree confirm many assumptions, like the benefits of financial security and stable marriage relationships, while shedding new light onto others, such as the impact of gender and postretirement employment. Thoughtful preparation for the psychological and social aspects of retirement may be as important as financial planning.
