- Title
New Directions. The Ethics of Synthetic Biology and Emerging Technologies. Executive Summary and Recommendations.
- Abstract
The article provides an overview on the executive summary and recommendations of the U.S. Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues for the ethics of synthetic biology and emerging technologies. It notes that the recommendation is in response to President Barack Obama's request to review the developing field of synthetic biology and identify appropriate ethical boundaries to maximize public benefits and minimize risks. It tackles the five ethical principles identified by the Commission for assessing emerging technologies. The principles include public beneficence, responsible stewardship, and intellectual freedom and responsibility.
