- Abstract
This study measured the first aid and injury prevention (FAIP) knowledge of youth coaches in various Mid-Michigan youth sporting leagues. The design was a static group comparison, with data collection consisting of youth coaches' performance based on the Revised First-Aid Assessment (FAA) Survey. The independent variable was youth coaches. The dependent variables were the responses to the FAA questions. Fifteen coaches (5.17%) out of 290 coaches earned a passing score on the FAA. Such a percentage is definitely well below adequate and signifies a potentially alarming situation. These findings indicated that youth coaches do not possess sufficient FAIP knowledge. The information gained from this study suggests that youth coaches in the Mid-Michigan area need additional FAIP education.
