- Abstract
A comprehensive analysis of the field data and those from previous studies made it possible to refine the bottom morphology of Academy Bay. The environmental conditions of the Shantar region are considered. Natural factors that determine the differences in morphodynamics of some parts of Academy Bay have been revealed. The relief and relief-forming processes have also been described. Denudation and alongshore sediment transport were found to predominate. The accumulation of recent sediments is confined to the heads of bays and estuaries. Differences in the distribution of first-order relief features and the composition of bottom sediments in some areas of the Ulban, Konstantin, and Nikolaya Bay bays, which are determined by a complex system of sea currents, were studied. The landforms of fluvial genesis (linear (valley) and isometric depressions), which are more widespread in Academy Bay and larger than in the previously studied Tugur and Uda bays, were established. Based on the morphodynamic zonation of the bay bottom, four zones, which differ in manifestations of present-day exomorphogenesis, were distinguished and described. The study results can be used in further investigations and for the purposes of economic development of the region.
