- Authors
Barber, Christopher Ernest
- Abstract
This study looks at the assessments of elites and intellectuals in Western Europe in the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian War. Focusing specifically on those who were uneasy with Germany's conduct in the war and the nature of their peace terms, this study seeks to understand how these contemporaries understood the new status quo. To them, the war had threatened the workings of the concert and distorted the balance of power, conjuring a distinct uneasiness over the new post-war era.
