- Abstract
In this study, a reactive power compensation relay continuously controlling the reactive power of the system with more than one load has been designed and implemented. The current and the voltage data are loaded into a PIC. Using the measured data, the reactive power required for compensation was calculated via the software and the capacitor groups were taken in service at a single step to achieve minimum number of switching. The relay developed takes simples from each phase, and therefore it is capable of compensation of unbalanced systems, and observing the current, the voltage, the power factor, the active power and the reactive power in each phase of unbalanced systems. Experimental results show that the developed relay is user friendly and has small dimensions. Moreover, the power factor of the system was kept between 0.95 and 1.0. Due to these features, the designed relay is more useful and economic than other relays used in market.
