First CVD SYNTHETIC DIAMOND Submitted for Dossier Grading.
- Authors
Chadwick, Karen M.; Breeding, Christopher M.
- Abstract
The article discusses the results of the gemological testing of a chemical vapor deposition synthetic diamond which was submitted to the Carlsbad, California laboratory of the Gemological Institute of America for dossier grading. The researchers observed numerous feathers and related cavities on the pavilion of the diamond through microscopic examination. A clarity grade of Slightly Included range was given to the diamond. In addition, unevenly distributed, high order interference colors were displayed by the synthetic diamond between cross polarizers. The diamond did not exhibit fluorescence to either long- or short-wave ultraviolet radiation emitted by a desk model ultraviolet lamp.
