- Title
BROWN BOOBY SULA LEUCOGASTER GROUP SIZE AS A DEFENSE AGAINST KLEPTOPARASITISM.
- Authors
DUFFY, DAVID C.
- Abstract
The article discusses a study which examines a defense strategy used by Brown boobies against parasitism by Magnificent frigatebirds. Observations of group size, frequency of kleptoparasitic attempts per group, and probability per bird of attacks were made on Brown boobies returning to their nesting colony on Isla Santa Catalina, Galapagos Islands. Findings show that increased flock size in Brown boobies resulted to higher attack probability, but decreased risk per bird.
