- Title
How to diagnose and manage an acute Achilles tendon rupture.
- Authors
Cary, David V.
- Abstract
The article offers information on how to diagnose, manage and treat acute Achilles tendon rupture. It notes that the Achilles forms from the distal ends of the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles that inserts at the superior posterior aspect of the calcaneus. It notes that Simmond's test also known as the Thompson test is a gross screening examination for such disease. Moreover, it suggests that immobilization with a short-leg cast that holds the foot in a slight plantar flexion is effective.
