- Title
Recovering the "Rigour of Interpretative Lexicography": Border Crossings in Johnson's Dictionary.
- Authors
Pearce, Chris P.
- Abstract
The article criticizes the approach and interpretative definitions used by Samuel Johnson in the book "A Dictionary of the English Language." Johnson provides lexicons by presenting the usage, meaning, and its etymology. Johnson did not have a structure that are seen in modern dictionaries and this is why, commentaries, usage, etymology, pronunciation and spelling may or may not be included. Johnson was an etymologist, textual critic and lexicographer.
