- Title
Water Wars? A Talk with Ismail Serageldin.
- Abstract
An interview is presented with Ismail Serageldin, vice-president of sustainable development for the World Bank and director of the Library of Alexandria, Egypt. Serageldin says that the relationship between water-supply and food supply is the major reason water is likely to become a major issue in international relations in the 21st century. He names the world's arid regions and regions which are experiencing particularly rapid economic development as those most likely to face conflicts, even wars, over water-supply. Serageldin states that there is an almost total lack of international cooperation in the development and preservation of water supplies.
