- Abstract
The article focuses on the connection between men, masculinity and management of further education. As a theoretical tool with which to understand men's behaviour and actions the concept of hegemonic masculinity has been utilised extensively. It can be argued that dominant expressions of manliness have hegemonic characteristics in as much as they are acted out and displayed as privileged and influential ways of being a man in a variety of environments. In order to understand and theoretically interpret the actions of these men managers we have drawn upon the literature of masculinity, specifically hegemonic masculinity. The power-plays that have emerged affect both organisations and individuals, producing winners, losers and refugees in a frantic scramble for survival between and within institutions.
