- Title
Creation, Time, and Philosophy: Thomistic Reflections.
- Authors
Baldner, Steven
- Abstract
This article explores the concept of creation out of nothing (creatio ex nihilo) in the traditions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It focuses on the perspectives of Thomas Aquinas, Bonaventure, Albert, and Descartes regarding the relationship between creation and time. Thomas argues that creation is separate from considerations of time, while Bonaventure and Albert believe that creation implies a temporal beginning. Descartes sees temporal duration as a series of discrete moments and believes that God must continually recreate each moment. These different perspectives have implications for understanding the nature of God and the causality of creatures.
