- Title
Selective sympathy? Exploring western media bias in the reporting of terrorism.
- Authors
Adams, Abigail
- Abstract
The author discusses the reaction of media to the 2016 epidemic of terror attacks claimed by the Islamic State that revived criticism of so-called "empathy gap." It mentions that the argument goes that non-western countries attacks obtain a muted response, while disruption to western city is regarded an attack on all of humanity. It states that the argument is built on premises such as the imbalance is wrong due to the depth of coverage and the media news coverage is unbalanced systematically.
