- Title
Antipsychotic drugs: The costs and benefits.
- Abstract
The article discusses results of the Clinical Antipsychotic Trials of Intervention Effectiveness, which involve patients with chronic schizophrenia. The original analysis showed that the first generation drug perphenazine worked as well as some of the newer drugs. An analysis revealed that perphenazine treatment was less expensive than treatments with competing second-generation drugs. Authors of the study conclude that patients are not likely to find a more effective drug than the one they are already taking.
