- Abstract
Rapid progress in the field of information technology and communication achievements, along with the simultaneous development of intensive globalization processes, caused the frequent movement of people on a global level. If forced emigration of people and natural conditions are excluded, it could be concluded that economic and social aspects are crucial in making the decision to relocate to other countries. Awareness of working and living conditions in domicile countries and other parts of the world has increased rapidly thanks to the development of the Internet. Due to the mentioned trends, global migrations do not lose their topicality, and the academic community, as well as political circles and the general public are interested in them. The academic and professional public is researching various aspects of migration, politicians are trying to manage migration processes as adequately as possible, while citizens are trying to adapt to the conditions where they encounter migrants more and more often. The subject of this paper refers to the main causes and consequences of population migration. The main goal of the work consists in trying to find answers to some research questions: what are the main factors that cause mass population migrations, what are the statistical trends in the number and structure of migrants in the 21st century, what are the positive and negative consequences of emigration, are there ways to better "dealing" with migration as a global problem today. A deductive and inductive research approach was used during the preparation of the paper, with the use of the following scientific methods: descriptive method, method of analysis and synthesis, method of specialization and comparison, as well as method of generalization and observation.
