- Abstract
The USA has been playing proactive role in the Balkans since the period of the dissolution of former Yugoslavia until present times, directed towards supporting the countries in the process of completion of their euro perspective, supporting the key political and economic reforms, development of democracy, rule of law, creating the free markets and the development of the civil society. The full-fledged membership in NATO of the countries of Western Balkans presents a strong confirmation of the US consistent policy in the Balkans region directed towards finalizing the process of regional security. The USA has led a consistent, and at certain periods of the Balkans history, a crucial role in the stabilization of the region (the Dayton Peace Accords), by assisting the period of transition of the Balkan countries through political and economic reforms as well as supporting the commitment of the countries in their path towards EU integration. The USA remain fully committed to finding a solution for the many serious challenges the countries from the region are being faced with like weak government ruling, inefficient public administration, insufficient and politicized judicial reforms, presence of corruption among the highest levels of power as well as the high level of organized crime by implementing projects from the worlds largest agency for aid -- USAID. USAID represents an essential tool in effectuating US development policy throughout the world, but at the same time it is a means for accomplishment of the American national and strategic policies in the world and the Balkans as well.
