- Abstract
The migrant crisis is a consequence of a long-standing economic and political-security crisis in Africa, the Middle East and Afghanistan. So far, western countries have solved this problem only by combating the consequences but not by solving it radically. Full understanding of the cause of migration, as well as the situation in these regions of the world is a prerequisite for finding appropriate solutions. Eradicating poverty and inequality, political instability, the fight against terrorism and extremism of ISIL and all other similar groups are just a few of the prerequisites for successfully tackling today's challenges. The refugee and the migrant crisis is not only a major humanitarian crisis of vulnerable refugees and migrants seeking protection from wars and crises in their countries, it is also a threat in many aspects and already has an impact on economic and social stability as well as internal security. The countries through which migrants pass or remain, including the Republic of Northern Macedonia. In the context of the recent refugee and migrant crisis, circumstances such as religious extremism and the rise of ISIL in parts of the Middle East have allowed extremists to infiltrate within refugee and migrant groups. In this context, the busiest Western-Balkan route used to arrive in the Schengen area, ie in Germany, Sweden and other Western and Nordic countries, has a negative impact reflected in the social aspect, a real threat to national identity (culture, language, religion), and such endangerment will inevitably lead to an increase in xenophobia, nationalism and racism.
