- Abstract
The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Macedonia is an institution that has powers to protect human rights and freedoms guaranteed with the Constitution. This paper puts under scrutiny the work of the Constitutional court in this regard. Namely, having a very powerful tool, the question remains is really the Constitutional court an effective mechanism for human rights protection. This question arises since the Constitutional court does not easily decides that there has been a violation of individual human rights and freedoms. Thus, for tha last four years, the Constitutional court has decided in meritum only in 11 cases regarding human rights protection, and in none of them has found that there has been a violation. The paper focuses on the jurisdiction of the Constitutional court and draws those moment that are relevant to influence the efficiency of the Constitutional court. First of all, the constitutional limitation of the rights and freedoms that can be protected; than the small number of cases in front of the Constitutional court and the way how the Constitutional court decides these cases.
